Is there any home remedies to cure a sore throat?

I have strep throat, and i’m at my dads house, and i forgot my medicine. I don’t think he has many pain medication or anything, so is there any home remedies? Thank you.

85% of sore throats are the result of viral infections and will resolve spontaneously. If symptoms fail to improve and/or get worse then see your GP.

Things that will help:-
Paracetamol/ ibuprofen for any pain
Push fluid intake
Difflam or Chloraseptic throat sprays might help any local discomfort.

Things that haven’t been proven to help:-
Gargling with salt (myth)
Gargling with Aspirin (myth and local irritant)
Pepper
Oranges, lemons and the bells of St Clements!
Vitamin C (even the soluble ones in whacking great big doses!)
Echinacea
Zinc

  3. Yes…put some salt at the bottom of a glass,fill it with warm water,stir..and gargle it.Salt is an antiseptic,in other words,kills germs…don’t worry,it won’t ‘burn’ your throat:-)

Sorry hun,I just realized you were asking about ‘pain’ which salt won’t really help with…but it’s still a good idea if you have an infection:-)

  4. Here’s an Old Ukrainian remedy for sore throats wrap a large raw cabbage leaf around your neck and then tie it with something and leave it then for 30 minutes. The Cabbage leaf draws out the pain from your throat and it don’t matter what cabbage leaf you use but large is the best Recommendation. However Raw garlic is what i prefer. get a good sized raw clove of garlic and chop it into little pieces . first take a piece or 2 and chew them up usually using the Molars in the back of your mouth. SWALLOW HARD ! then take another piece of 2 and swallow them with water, just like you would Medicine. instantly keep repeating till you finished the whole clove. this remedy works when you drink hot tea b4 or after you instantly start to use the remedy. ( I recommend after ) but there is a chance of the burning sensation of the raw garlic will inflict on your tongue. and it might build up strong thick mucus. (so be careful you don’t choke on it ) but it won’t last long and the Relief from it all will be strong and instantaneous . the fresh raw garlic numbs you mouth and throat and helps kill the bad microbes germs and bacteria in your throat. ( Esophagus)
