in the Gospels,Nicodemus laid in that huge supply of medicinal herbs….?
at the time of the crucifixion.These were healing herbs ,not embalming herbs.Who was he planning on healing?
Jesus wasnt buried according to Jewish burial practices.Compare Lazurus’s burial clothes to that of Jesus

Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[d] 40Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there
The passage is self explanatory it was the custom for rapid burial on the approach of the Sabbath so no unclean thing was left undone. By covering the body in myrrh and aloe it would be properly prepared for a rapid burial according to Talmudic laws.
The myrrhs and aloes – although they were known to have some healing properties…were used by the Egyptians for embalming purposes, too.
Believe me, Nicodemus knew that Jesus was dead.

While some apply the term “aloes” in this text to the plant of the lily family that now bears the botanical name of Aloe vera, the product of this plant (a thick juice from the leaves) is employed not for its aroma but as a purgative. The aloes brought by Nicodemus was likely the same aloeswood product as that referred to in the Hebrew Scriptures.
Esteemed for its fragrance, myrrh was used to scent garments, beds, and other items. Myrrh was also one of the substances employed in preparing bodies for burial.
