A day in the life at BYC Burlington Yoga Conference


The annual spring Conference, will return to the Davis Center in May 2012. Burlington Yoga Conference Spring is one of the largest annual yoga events in New England and Quebec and is steadily growing in size and scope. Its sister event, BYCwinter, arose out of demand for a second yoga conference. The Burlington Yoga Conference features a diverse and inviting lineup of yoga teachers, studios and traditions as well as healing arts, mindful merchants, meditation and more. Friday, May 4th, Burlington Yoga Conference begins with a community-centered event, the ‘BYCspring Kick Off Party Fundraiser’ at South End Studio. The conference begins again the next morning at 8:15 am on Saturday, May 5th at the Davis Center, UVM with a gentle practice led by BYC founder Jane Jarecki Lanza. This opening ceremony begins a two day stretch of eight 90 minute workshops with instructors from around the city, state, and world. Participants can attend as little as one workshop or plot the course for a weekend-long yoga-immersion.

Surya Namaskar A & B daily yoga practice


This is an 18 minute Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation follow-along practice. It’s a great way to wake up in the morning, or to end your day. While there are modifications for beginners, poses are not described in great detail so if you are brand new to yoga, you may fare better with a more tutorial-like video. This video is practice oriented, with 5 repetitions of Surya Namaskar A and 5 of Surya Namaskar B. While these sequences are taken from the Ashtanga tradition, Forrest Yoga modifications have been given for a few of the asanas, including lengthening the back of your neck at all times in order to reduce neck and upper back pain which I find sometimes accumulates from lots of sun salutes.
